Back in 2012, my very first pet portrait was a West Highland White Terrier – a gift for a good friend and former colleague.
Here is the latest watercolor painting, another “Westie,” an 8″ x 10″ portrait based on a photo from Chris Keller on Pixabay.
This portrait had unique challenges:
- The hair patterns required thinking in “shapes.”
- The white subject on the white background was created using watery applications of pale color.
I appreciate the requests from everyone to create a white dog, and this tutorial will be available at my Online School as soon as editing is complete.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to check it out, I hope you can find the time to visit the school and get the free video!
Thanks for visiting!

I’m excited to see what tutorials you have planned for April?
Thank you!
